UN Tourism has recently unveiled its “Tourism Doing Business Investing in Namibia” guidelines, aimed at attracting international investors to the flourishing tourism sector in Namibia.

The guidelines provide valuable insights into the opportunities available in Namibia’s tourism sector, highlighting the country’s unique cultural heritage, strong economy, and favorable business environment for potential investors.

Namibia: A Hub for Tourism Investment

Namibia, renowned for its stunning natural landscapes and diverse culture, is poised for significant growth in tourism investment. Positioned as a gateway to Southern Africa, Namibia offers a wide range of attractions, including the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei and the abundant wildlife of Etosha National Park. According to UN Tourism:

  • Namibia has maintained steady economic growth and stability, with a projected GDP growth of 4.2% in 2025.
  • The country witnessed a substantial increase in international visitors, welcoming 863,872 tourists in 2024.
  • The tourism sector contributed 6.9% to Namibia’s GDP, generating USD 348 million in international tourism receipts in 2023.
  • Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in Namibia reached USD 2.61 billion in 2023, with major contributions from countries like China, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Mauritius.

UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili stated, “Namibia’s diverse investment opportunities and commitment to sustainable growth make it an attractive destination for global investors. The country’s focus on energy transition and tourism expansion showcases its dedication to innovation and inclusivity.”

Political Support for Tourism in Namibia

The Investment Guidelines were officially launched during a visit by UN Tourism leadership to Namibia. Secretary-General Pololikashvili attended the Inauguration of H.E Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as Namibia’s 5th President, coinciding with the country’s 35th Anniversary of Independence.

Furthermore, Secretary-General Pololikashvili delivered a Keynote Address at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, emphasizing the importance of leveraging technology to build a more resilient and inclusive tourism sector in Africa.
