The Deputy Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Justice Srem Sai, has underscored the significance of following due process and refraining from assuming guilt before a court of law makes a determination. His comments come following the arrest of the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Mr. Boahene was taken into custody at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon his return from London on a British Airways flight. The operation, carried out at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, was a joint effort involving EOCO investigators led by Deputy Director Raymond Archer and officials from the Attorney-General’s Department.

In a Facebook post on Friday, March 21, Dr. Srem Sai revealed that he had visited Mr. Boahene and his wife, Madam Angela Adjei-Boateng, who are presently detained to aid in the ongoing investigations. Both individuals have been granted access to legal representation and are reportedly being treated fairly.

Dr. Sai emphasized the importance of upholding fairness in legal proceedings, asserting that no one should be presumed guilty until proven so by a competent court of law. He stated, “No one, regardless of the nature of the suspicion or accusations, should be treated as guilty until they’re actually proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

It is crucial to uphold the principles of justice and due process in every legal proceeding to ensure that the rights of individuals are protected. The presumption of innocence until proven guilty is a fundamental tenet of the legal system, and it is essential to uphold this principle in all cases.

As the investigations into the case continue, it is imperative that all parties involved adhere to the rule of law and respect the rights of the individuals under investigation. Dr. Justice Srem Sai’s reminder serves as a timely caution against rushing to judgment and underscores the importance of allowing the legal process to run its course.
