A Renewed Commitment to Addressing Ghana’s Economic Challenges

A member of the National Economic Dialogue (NED) Committee, Professor John Gatsi, emphasized the urgency and collective resolve displayed during the recent National Economic Dialogue in tackling Ghana’s economic challenges. He noted that while these issues are not new, there is now a newfound boldness to confront and address them.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Prof. Gatsi pointed out that longstanding challenges in key sectors such as energy and cocoa production have persisted over the years. However, previous attempts to resolve them have often lacked the necessary commitment.

“The National Economic Dialogue brings more urgency to resolving these problems. These challenges did not emerge overnight; they have been persistent. Energy issues have plagued us, and the cocoa sector problems are not recent. But now, we are showing the willingness to tackle them head-on,” he stated.

Prof. Gatsi clarified that the government is not oblivious to these economic difficulties or their potential solutions. However, the commitments made during the dialogue signal a new approach to addressing them.

He also emphasized the importance of inclusivity in shaping policy directions, citing Nigeria’s past experiences as a model for Ghana to learn from.

“The government has committed to a consensus-building process within 120 days to address the economic challenges so that we can all align our thinking,” he added.
