A former Arapahoe County social worker, Robin Niceta, has been sentenced to probation and a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple felony charges related to a false child abuse report against Aurora city councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky. Niceta, 42, will avoid serving prison time if she successfully completes three years of probation.

The case against Niceta stemmed from a fabricated report she filed against Councilwoman Jurinsky in January 2022, following criticism of Niceta’s then-partner, Vanessa Wilson, who was Aurora’s police chief at the time. Niceta was incarcerated at La Vista Correctional Facility in Pueblo for the false report.

During the legal proceedings, Niceta’s attorney attempted to delay the trial by claiming her terminal illness, citing a diagnosis of glioblastoma from a New Mexico oncologist. However, investigations revealed that the oncologist did not exist, and the medical records provided by Niceta were falsified.

In a separate case, Niceta was sentenced to four years in prison in May for unrelated charges and is expected to be eligible for parole in January. Councilwoman Jurinsky expressed disappointment in the leniency of Niceta’s sentence, considering the severity of the charges she pleaded guilty to.

Niceta’s attorney did not provide a comment on the sentencing. The case has raised concerns about the justice system’s handling of such cases and the impact on the people of Colorado.
