A Chieftain of PDP Criticizes INEC for Electoral Discrepancies

Adetokunbo Pearse, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has raised concerns about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), attributing electoral discrepancies in the country to the commission.

During a recent discussion on Nigeria’s political landscape on Breakfast Central, Pearse expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, stating that it lacked a clear winner and highlighting the need for immediate reforms within INEC.

According to Pearse, “Nobody won that 2023 presidential election. Atiku received 12 states, Obi received 12 states, and Tinubu received 12 states. With only 31 percent of the vote counted, INEC declared a winner. The issue lies with INEC.”

He went on to allege that INEC’s actions have facilitated electoral irregularities, suggesting that the commission operates under external influence, particularly from the executive branch.

Furthermore, Pearse accused INEC of manipulating election results to favor specific candidates, stating, “INEC is responsible for Akpabio becoming a senator. Akpabio did not even contest for the Senate, yet he holds the position. INEC is at the core of these irregularities.”

He stressed the urgency of restructuring INEC to ensure transparency and credibility in future elections in Nigeria, while also highlighting the issue of executive interference in the commission’s activities.
