The Number of Foreign Nationals Apprehended at U.S. Border Hits Record Low in February

February saw a significant decrease in the number of foreign nationals apprehended entering the U.S. illegally, reaching its lowest level in recorded history. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, only 8,326 apprehensions and encounters were reported at the southwest border last month, marking a substantial decline from previous years.

The decrease in apprehensions is attributed to policies implemented by the Trump administration, which resulted in a drop of 85% in apprehensions between ports of entry at the southwest border and 93% at ports of entry within the first 10 days of the administration.

Former President Trump issued executive orders on his first day in office to secure U.S. borders, including declaring a national emergency and directing the military to assist with apprehensions and deportations. These measures aimed to deter illegal immigration and protect American sovereignty.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised the record-low numbers in February, emphasizing that the message to not come to the country illegally is being heard. She reiterated the consequences for those entering illegally, emphasizing that they will be arrested and deported.

In response to the news, Trump issued a statement on Truth Social, highlighting the success of his administration’s policies in curbing illegal immigration and securing the border. He emphasized that anyone attempting to enter the USA illegally will face criminal penalties and immediate deportation.

Under the Biden administration, a record number of illegal border crossers were reported, including children who were smuggled into the country under dangerous circumstances. The Trump administration has prioritized finding and ensuring the safety of these children, who were often placed with unvetted sponsors by the previous administration.

The focus on securing the border and enforcing immigration laws remains a top priority for the U.S. government, as efforts continue to prevent illegal immigration and protect the nation’s borders.
