The Ambulance service in the Western Region has been inundated with distress calls over the past year, with a total of 1,842 calls received. Among these calls, 232 were related to maternal emergencies, highlighting the critical need for emergency medical services in the region.

Despite facing challenges such as inadequate office space, limited staff, and resources, the Western Regional Ambulance Service remains committed to providing life-saving care to the people of the region. Currently operating with 21 ambulances, the service is working tirelessly to ensure prompt responses to emergency calls.

During a meeting with Western Regional Minister Hon. Joseph Nelson, Mr. F.B. Manu, the Regional Manager of the ambulance service, highlighted the key challenges facing the service. These challenges include the lack of office space at certain stations, understaffing in some districts, and the need for improvements in the Regional Dispatch Centre and administrative operations.

Mr. Manu appealed to the Western Regional Minister for support in addressing these challenges, emphasizing the importance of securing office accommodation, increasing staff strength, and enhancing the efficiency of the Regional Dispatch Centre. Hon. Joseph Nelson acknowledged the difficulties faced by the ambulance service and pledged his support, recognizing the vital role the service plays in delivering healthcare services to the region.

With the right support and resources, the Western Regional Ambulance Service is confident in its ability to continue providing essential emergency medical services to the people of the region. The dedicated staff are committed to saving lives and ensuring that all residents have access to timely and quality medical care in times of crisis.
