Loretta Devine recently opened up about her experience working with Jennifer Love Hewitt on the short-lived series, “The Client List.” The 75-year-old actress shared in an interview with People that her time working with Hewitt, who also served as an executive producer on the show, was a “mixed” experience. Devine expressed her concerns about Hewitt’s decision to rewrite the entire angle of the show midway through production.
“The Client List,” which premiered in 2021, followed the story of Riley Parks, played by Hewitt, a mother who takes on a job at a day spa with questionable services. Devine portrayed Georgia Cummings, the owner of the spa. Despite the star-studded cast, including Cybill Shepherd, Rebecca Field, and Colin Egglesfield, the show was ultimately canceled after just two seasons in 2013.
This is not the first time Hewitt has been at the center of on-set tension. During the filming of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in the ’90s, rumors circulated about a feud between Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Hewitt denied these rumors in a podcast interview, emphasizing that they were all young actors trying to navigate their roles in the industry.
While Gellar will not be part of the upcoming reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are set to return to the franchise. The new cast members include Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Austin Nichols.
Before her time on “The Client List,” Loretta Devine had already established herself as a talented actress. She starred alongside Whitney Houston in “Waiting to Exhale” and originated the role of Lorrell Robinson in the Broadway production of “Dreamgirls.” Devine also earned critical acclaim for her recurring role as Adele Webber on “Grey’s Anatomy,” winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2011.
Despite any on-set drama, Devine continues to be a respected figure in the entertainment industry, showcasing her talent and versatility in a variety of roles.
