A photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the massacre carried out by Ethiopian colonial regimes in Asmara and its surrounding areas was officially launched today. The opening ceremony was led by Mr. Fesehaye Haile, Governor of the Central Region.

Located in front of the Asmara Municipality office, the exhibition showcases 50 photographs, partial lists of the victims’ names, and documentary films that shed light on the tragic event. Mr. Ghidey Gebremicael, one of the exhibition’s organizers, mentioned that the materials featured in the display were sourced from the archives of the Eritrean Police.

In a moving tribute to the victims of the massacre, Mr. Fesehaye Haile, along with Mr. Yosuf Saiq, Head of PFDJ Organizational Affairs, and Mr. Zerit Tewoldebrhan, Managing Director of the region, laid wreaths at the exhibition site. The exhibition is open to the public until Sunday, 16 February.

This event serves as a powerful reminder of the atrocities committed in the past and honors the memory of those who lost their lives. It provides a platform for reflection and remembrance as the community comes together to pay their respects. The exhibition is a poignant tribute to the history of the region and a call for justice and remembrance.

The Ministry of Information, Eritrea, in collaboration with various partners, has organized this exhibition to ensure that the sacrifices of the victims are not forgotten. Through the display of photographs, names of the victims, and documentary films, the exhibition aims to educate the public about the tragic events of the past and promote a culture of remembrance and reconciliation.

As we commemorate this solemn occasion, let us honor the memory of those who perished and strive for a future where such atrocities never occur again. The exhibition stands as a testament to the resilience and strength of the Eritrean people and their commitment to preserving their history and heritage.
