Ghanaian reggae sensation Ras Kuuku has raised eyebrows regarding Nacee’s classification as a gospel artist.

During a discussion with DJ Slim on the popular show Daybreak Hitz, Ras Kuuku voiced his skepticism over the decision of the TGMA’s Board to restrict the gospel categories to only gospel musicians.

When asked why artists like himself are not eligible to compete in the gospel categories, Ras Kuuku questioned Nacee’s gospel artist status.

“Nacee is not a gospel musician, he is a producer,” Ras Kuuku emphasized.

Despite Nacee’s extensive work in producing and performing gospel songs, Ras Kuuku pointed out that Nacee has also been involved in the production of secular tracks like ‘Kwen Kwen’, a song he created for the National Democratic Congress.

Aside from his gospel music contributions, Nacee is recognized for his secular hits such as ‘Boys Boys’, ‘Dondo’, and ‘Paddy Paddy’.

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards specifies that the ‘Best Gospel Song’ category is reserved for songs by gospel artists that have garnered significant public excitement and patronage. Only songs performed by gospel artists are eligible for this category.

Meanwhile, Ras Kuuku believes that his track ‘Me Mpaebo’ stands as one of the most impactful gospel songs released in the past decade.

Ras Kuuku’s critique of Nacee suggests that Nacee’s involvement in secular music may have created a divided perception among his audience.
