Minister of State-Designate, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has unveiled a bold plan for a significant revamp of the government’s communication structure. During his vetting on Friday, January 31, Kwakye Ofosu proposed a merger between the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the Information Services Department (ISD) to modernize and enhance the efficiency of government communication.

In his address, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the necessity of adopting a more contemporary approach to government communication. He noted that the traditional methods employed by the ISD have become outdated and no longer effectively serve their intended purpose. Kwakye Ofosu highlighted the impact of technological advancements on communication strategies, stressing the need for a strategic shift to ensure effective information dissemination.

President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for a consolidated Government Communication Office that integrates the ISD and GNA aims to improve service delivery and efficiency. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated the President’s vision of transforming the ISD and GNA through a merger, creating a unified Government Communication Office that would enhance communication capabilities and public engagement.

The proposed merger between the GNA and ISD is seen as a strategic move to streamline government communication, bringing it in line with the demands of the digital age. By consolidating these two entities, the government aims to improve the effectiveness of its communication efforts and better engage with the public.

Overall, the merger of the GNA and ISD into a Government Communication Office represents a forward-thinking approach to government communication. By integrating these two key communication agencies, the government seeks to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and adapt to the evolving communication landscape.
