The 60th Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, sponsored by HEINEKEN Beverages, is set to take place at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, 23 March. The panel of judges has announced the recipients of the 2025 special awards, recognizing the exceptional talent that enriches Cape Town and South Africa.
One of the most prestigious awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award, will be presented to Professor Temple Hauptfleisch. Professor Hauptfleisch has dedicated his career to researching and documenting the world of theatre in South Africa, notably establishing the online Encyclopaedia of South African Theatre, Film, Media and Performance (ESAT). His contribution to archiving theatre performance is unmatched, and his influence in the sector spans decades.
The creative duo of David Isaacs and Oscar Petersen will receive the Encore Award for their 25 years of ‘Joe Barber’. The characters Boeta Gamat and Boeta Joe have become iconic figures, bringing joy and laughter to audiences across Cape Town. Their performances have created a sense of community and have become a cultural phenomenon in the city.
The Innovation in Theatre Award will be presented to SoapBoxing for their role in nurturing theatre talent and fostering a dynamic creative space. SoapBoxing has provided a platform for writers, actors, and directors to experiment and grow, captivating audiences with diverse and electrifying performances.
