Reports from Nkwanta, in the Oti Region of Ghana, have confirmed that five individuals have lost their lives, while five others sustained injuries, following renewed communal clashes in the area. The violence has also resulted in the destruction of eight buildings and one shop, further escalating tensions in the community.
Police and Military Deployed to Restore Peace
A press release issued by the Ghana Police Service disclosed that heavy police and military reinforcements have been dispatched to Nkwanta to restore peace and maintain law and order in the region. The joint operation aims to quell the unrest and prevent further escalation of violence.

“The Ghana Police Service has restored calm, law and order at Nkwanta and its environs in the Oti Region with the deployment of reinforcement teams to support the Regional Command. The Police are being supported by the Military.”
“This follows renewed communal-related disturbances in the area which has so far resulted in the death of five persons and injury to five others. Eight buildings and one shop have also been destroyed.”

The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment, while the deceased have been taken to the morgue. Stakeholder engagements are ongoing to de-escalate tensions and foster peace in the community.
The Inspector-General of Police has engaged with the local chiefs over the phone, urging them to collaborate with security agencies to ensure security and order in the area.
