5 Secrets Every Woman Should Know About Her Bra

Since the invention of the first bra in the early 1900s by Caresse Crosby, also known as May Phelps Jacob, this essential garment has evolved into a supportive, fashionable, and practical item in every woman’s closet. But not all bras are created equal, with different styles playing a role in shaping society and fashion trends over the years.

According to Karen Fitzpatrick of Playtex underwear licensee Style Eyes, there are important aspects of bras that every woman should be aware of. Here are five secrets that every woman should know about her bra:

Your size is never set in stone

Bodies are constantly changing due to factors like hormones, age, weight fluctuations, and the time of the month. This means that the bra size you wore last year may not be the right fit for you today. It’s essential to get measured regularly to ensure you’re wearing the correct size, as it can affect how you look and feel in your clothes.

Straps are not doing the heavy lifting

Contrary to popular belief, the straps of a bra are not the main source of support. The band that wraps around your body is actually responsible for carrying most of the weight and anchoring the fit. If you experience shoulder pain or discomfort from the straps digging into your skin, it’s likely that the band is the culprit.

Give your bras a rest

Rotating your bras is key to prolonging their lifespan. Wearing the same bra day after day can cause it to stretch out faster and lose its elasticity. By having a small collection of bras on hand, you can ensure that each one lasts longer and continues to provide proper support.

Wash them delicately

Bras are delicate garments that require gentle care when washing. Hand washing or using the gentlest cycle on your washing machine can help extend the life of your bras. Avoid throwing them in the wash with heavy items like jeans and towels, as this can damage the fabric, wires, and overall fit of the bra.

Comfort is not a luxury

Comfort should be a non-negotiable factor when choosing a bra. If a bra is causing you pain, pinching, or leaving red marks on your skin, it’s not the right fit for you. A bra should provide support without sacrificing comfort, so don’t settle for a style that compromises your well-being for the sake of fashion.

By keeping these five secrets in mind, you can ensure that you’re getting the most out of your bras in terms of fit, comfort, and longevity. Remember, a well-fitting bra can make all the difference in how you look and feel in your clothes.
