If you can’t wait for the premiere of the next instalment of Charlie and Nick’s tale, don’t worry: the new episodes are coming soon. And with them, more dilemmas, dramas and adventures of the main characters and their loved ones.
For those who don’t know, the series is based on a webcomic and graphic novel by British author Alice Oseman. The series consists of four published volumes – volume 5 was released in December 2023, and volume 6 has no publication date yet. So far, Netflix has adapted the story from the first three volumes, so there is still much to tell about Nick and Charlie’s love story.

When will Heartstopper season 3 be released?
The series’ third instalment will drop on Netflix on Thursday, 3 October 2024.
The season will consist of eight episodes.
What will the plot of Heartstopper season 3 be?
Heartstopper’s season 2 ended with a significant cliffhanger. After a difficult conversation about school bullying related to coming out, Nick finally confessed his love to Charlie. On the way home, feeling safe and happy, Charlie replied with a love confession of his own, and at the last minute, paused his finger over the send button.
Season 1 depicted the events of the first two volumes of the graphic novel, while season 2 featured the story from volume 3. So, the upcoming season will most likely adapt the events of part 4 of the comic book, with the characters heading off to college. However, it’s uncertain if the series creators will run the events in precisely the same way.
As Alice Oseman said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
I feel very comfortable letting the show be its own thing. In my mind, the show and the comic feel very separate, although it’s quite a faithful adaptation. I feel excited to get to expand Heartstopper for the show.
In season 3, we can certainly look forward to the development of Tara and Darcy’s love story, and find out whether or not Darcy will come out to her parents. Tao and Elle have confessed their love for each other, but the girl’s decision to attend Lambert Art School may put a strain on their relationship.
In the next season of Heartstopper, we can also expect Isaac to explore his asexuality. According to Oseman, Mr Farouk and Mr Ajayi’s plotline will also be expanded in the show’s new episodes.
Interestingly, the mood of the third season may differ slightly from that of the first two seasons. The characters will be a bit older, therefore, their dilemmas will be more complicated and grim.
As Alice Oseman revealed to Netflix’s Tudum:
Season 2 ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie’s mental health issues, and it’s this that will drive the story through Season 3. While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up. Mental health, sex, university ambitions, and more: Nick, Charlie, and the Heartstopper teens are getting older, learning more about themselves and each other, and experiencing new desires, new fears, and new joys as they approach adulthood.
Who is the cast of Heartstopper season 3?
We can expect the following cast members to reprise their roles in the upcoming season:
- Kit Connor – Nick Nelson
- Joe Locke – Charlie Spring
- William Gao – Tao Xu
- Yasmin Finney – Elle Argent
- Rhea Norwood – Imogen Heaney
- Kizzy Edgell – Darcy Olssen

Unfortunately, Olivia Coleman, who starred as Nick’s mum, won’t appear in season 3, and Sebastian Croft won’t return to play Ben.
Darragh Hand will star as Michael Holden, while Jensen Clayden will appear as Oliver Spring, the cousin of Charlie and Tori.
Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan, Franklin) will appear as Geoff, Charlie’s straight-talking therapist.
Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Black Mirror) will portray Diane, Nick’s aunt, with whom the boy will go on holiday to Menorca.
