It’s been a long time coming, but for the first time ever Vice President Kamala Harris will face former President Donald Trump on the ABC debate stage. The Sept. 10 battle will finally allow the two candidates to not only meet in person for the first time ever but answer all the burning questions and concerns from American voters live.
With only 56 days until election day, Trump has some explaining to do and Harris is the only one that can get down to business.
1. Say her name right!
First things first, its pronounced “comma-luh.”
The democratic nominee has made it clear time and time again, and even her grand nieces took to the Democratic National Convention stage to teach viewers how to say Kamala correctly. So why does Trump have such a hard time doing so?
Recently the GOP nominee told his supporters he “couldn’t care less” if he pronounces her name wrong, saying he’s heard it pronounced “seven different ways.” Well Trump, there’s only one correct way to say her name, and The Root hopes Harris will make it painfully clear to you tomorrow night.
2. “I’m a better looking person than Kamala”
Yeah… right.
Trump is no stranger to making outrageous claims, but we were collectively confused when the former president made a quip flat out saying he’s cuter than Harris.
She never addressed it publicly — not that she ever needed to— but the people need Harris to clap back at Trump’s claim.
3. All his racist remarks
The former president not only has claimed his opponent “turned Black” in a political stunt, but he’s even been accused by his own nephew of saying the n-word multiple times. We can go on and on listing every nasty thing Trump said in the past, but enough of us talking. We want Harris to speak up!
For the Black, Hispanic, Muslim, and all other minority communities, Harris should absolutely call him out— with receipts of course— and make him answer to his incendiary comments.
4. Police Immunity
Now, Trump has said it multiple times, but the debate stage would be the perfect time for him to clarify exactly what he means by “police immunity.” He tried (barely) to explain at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention saying “we need to have our police officers have the respect and dignity back.”
Presidential debates are the perfect opportunity for candidates to explain their proposed policies while also answering the questions from the other side. So as a former prosecutor and attorney general, Vice President Harris, we hope you question Trump’s motive behind his vague yet dangerous proposed plan.
5. And what do you mean by Black jobs?!
The Root is not over it, and neither should you be. Trump’s been questioned about his strange “Black jobs” comment before, but in the words of Harris herself, we need him to “say it to my face!”
Oh yeah, and we hope Harris shuts down his repetitive ploy that she is incompetent because she “failed her law exam.” Because her law degree from the University of California Hastings College of the Law says otherwise…
The stage is set for this debate to be one for the history books, so let’s see how this goes. You can watch the presidential debate live on any of your favorite TV networks or stream it on YouTube.
