In a case of mistaken identity, rapper T.I. was arrested on Sunday (August 4) at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport per TMZ. Apparently, there was a warrant that had been issued for another man who shares the same real name as the rapper —Clifford Harris—and was wanted in Baltimore, Maryland.
The suspect that police are searching for is accused of stalking and being violent toward a woman during an incident that may have involved a gun. T.I. was transported from the airport to Clayton County Jail.
In addition, because the warrant was issued out of state, the arrest led to an automatic extradition hearing. T.I.’s lawyer, Steve Sadow, told TMZ that he spoke to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and managed to get T.I. released within two hours of his arrest.
Ultimately, the judge reviewed the incident and decided to toss the extradition order. T.I. — and his family — are used to making headlines. Last year while attending the Atlanta Falcons NFL game, the “What You Know” emcee, his wife Tiny, and their son King Harris got into a public fight, which seemingly led to a physical scuffle between father and son.
The argument, which the 19-year-old livestreamed on Instagram, started because T.I. and Tiny made claims that King can’t understand what it was like to grow up poor. Earlier this year, T.I. and Tiny vehemently denied resurfaced allegations of sexual assault in a lawsuit stemming from 2005.
The plaintiff, who is only identifiable as Jane Doe, accused the pair of battery, negligence, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress. T.I. and Tiny released a statement that explained their “position was clear” and that they were “innocent of these fake claims.” They also insisted they would not be shaken down.
