2024 has only just begun, but there are already plenty of big tech stories in the headlines.
The CES trade show in Las Vegas has been responsible for most of them, but you won’t see many smartphones there. However, one of the biggest phone launches of the entire year is happening today.
If you’ve clicked on this article, you know exactly what we’re talking about. It’s Samsung’s new flagship S24 series, which will be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Here’s everything you need to know, including how to watch it live.
When is the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch?
Samsung has confirmed that it will be holding a Galaxy Unpacked event today, Wednesday 17 January 2023 in San Jose, California.
It’ll begin at 10am local time (PT), which is 1pm ET, 6pm UK time or 7pm CET.
How to watch the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch live
As usual, the next Galaxy Unpacked event will be livestreamed around the world. The easiest way to watch is via Samsung’s official YouTube channel, and we’ve embedded the livestream below:
Alternatively, you will be able to watch it via the main Samsung website or Samsung Newsroom.
What will be announced the Samsung Galaxy S24 launch?
We’re 100% sure of one announcement at the next Unpacked event: Galaxy S24 smartphones.
In an official blog post, Samsung confirmed we’ll be seeing “the new Galaxy S series”, which it says “will set a higher standard for the most intelligent mobile experience yet”. Alongside the “Galaxy AI is coming slogan”, we can safely assume that artificial intelligence will feature heavily.
But aside from the presence of AI, the official invitation video doesn’t give much away:
However, it seems like we’ll be getting three models once again, with a regular Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra. There was a rumour suggesting the Plus model would be dropped, but this now seems very unlikely.
It looks like the phones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipsets, depending on the market. And the Ultra is likely to move to a titanium build, matching the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Small improvements to cameras and battery life are expected, while there’ll almost certainly be updated software. Samsung has already revealed its One UI 6 skin, which is based on Android 14, and it’s likely to run on all three Galaxy S24 handsets out of the box.
It’s not clear if there’ll be any other announcements at the event. Galaxy Book 4 laptops have already launched, so a new pair of Galaxy Buds is the most likely other product.
But don’t expect any new smartwatches or the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 foldables – these are usually launched later in the year.
