On 22 December 2023, the deputy prosecutor at the Casablanca court of appeal ordered the provisional detention of 25 people in connection with the case dubbed ‘Pablo Escobar of the Sahara’ by our sister publication Jeune Afrique, which has been following it closely. Sources say a further 28 people, including politicians, are to be brought before the prosecutor in the coming days.
