An arson suspect was hospitalized Saturday after a medical incident that occurred while deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office arrested him.
Just after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to reports of an arson in progress in the 6800 block of Highway 79 in Bennett, according to a Sunday news release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived on scene and contacted the male suspect, he became combative, according to the news release.
The man fought with deputies and when they tried to take him into custody, he stopped breathing, the news release stated.
Deputies provided medical aid to man on scene, and he was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. As of Sunday morning, his condition was unknown.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident.
