Herman Chinery-Hesse: A Trailblazer in African Tech Innovation

Herman Chinery-Hesse, a visionary entrepreneur in the African tech industry, had a remarkable journey that began in 1982 when he traveled to the United States to attend Westlake High School in Texas. He later graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology, where he gained valuable insights into the power of technology to drive economic transformation. This experience broadened his vision, leading him to return to Ghana in the early 1990s with a mission to leverage technology for the African market.

In 1991, Chinery-Hesse co-founded theSOFTtribe Limited, a pioneering software company in West Africa that developed “tropically sensitive” software solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of African businesses. His products, such as Akatua, a payroll system, and Hei Julor!!!, a mobile security alert system, quickly gained popularity across various sectors in West and East Africa. Through theSOFTtribe, Chinery-Hesse’s influence extended beyond Ghana, establishing him as a key figure in African tech innovation and earning him international recognition as a visionary entrepreneur.

1. World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer (2008)
In 2008, Chinery-Hesse was honored as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum for his significant contributions to technology on a global scale. 2. Microsoft African Partner of the Year
